le temps qui reste (2005) - francois ozon

Known as 'Time to Leave' in the English speaking world, Le Temps Qui reste stars Melvil Poupaud as Romain, a gay, self centred (and somewhat unpleasant   French photographer who is informed he has a brain tumour, and only a few months to live.  He then has to re-assess his life and deal with the consequences of his oncoming death.  Pretty slow moving, subtitled, depressing in places, and with a sub plot involving childhood and children, it was right up my street.
I should have been born gay and French, l'm wasted (sometimes literally) as a heterosexual scouser (even if that is sometimes hard to believe).

ronnie wood is 65

Ageing - it's all in the head and in the clothes.  Ronnie Wood is 65, but dresses (and often acts) like a teenager, and still has a lust for life.  Some might say this is pretty sad, but l think it's pretty commendable the way he still wants to dress fashionably and stay up to date with music, books, fashion and art.  I suspect there is dye applied to the old crows nest on a regular basis (or even some weaves/wig), although l have no proof of that (but l do trust my own eyes and tiny brain).  To me, he looks pretty damn good, certainly much better than my grandparents did at that age (and me at my age).  Then again, l'd look that cheerful and trendy  if l had his money and l was a member of The Rolling Stones.
I say enjoy whatever age you are, you can't turn back the clock, and there's still plenty out there to discover, even if it is old films, books, records etc.

soak your nuts - cleansing with karyn

Karyn Calabrese may be onto something.
I must admit that soaking ones nuts is one of the more pleasant and life enhancing experiences life has to offer.
However, wringing them dry again afterwards is not all it's cracked up to be.
Boom Boom (and indeed - Boom) - l'll get my own coat.

brushing teeth the catterick way

These two containers look kind of similar

One of them is moisturiser

One of them is (Turkish) toothpaste

Easy to mistake first thing in the morning, especially at work when you are tired, as l found out this morning, when, half asleep, l brushed my teeth with the moisturiser.  I will tell you now, it was disgusting.  So bad in fact, in nearly woke me up properly.

walking to joes

One of the joys of living next to lots of countryside!  I foolishly decided to get some fresh air and walk to Joes yesterday, forgetting how wet it would be.  The journey itself doesn't take long (through the woods to Colburn), but it's a pain in the arse trying to miss all of the puddles and horse crap.
Still, it was probably the most exercise l've had for a while, so l'm obviously full of piss and vinegar now, and with my 'new heart' l felt like l could have hopped all of the way (if it wasn't for that pesky mud).

gollum is in the airport

The good people at Weta have installed a Gollum / Lord of the Rings sculpture at Wellington Airport, New Zealand, and it looks great.  I've been in a few airports in my time, and this is just the sort of thing that should be on show, as there are usually a few empty hours to kill.
Mind you, after a few Bloody Mary's (my prefered drink while at airports), this could also start to look a bit creepy.
Did l ever mention the time l used to play Gollum in a travelling performance of The Hobbit around Germany?  Maybe another time my dears (but l was marvellous dwaaaaarling!).
The video of the instillation is below.

zombie audrey hepburn

I know Halloween has passed and l have already posted a great 'Venom' make up photograph, but this Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's costume and make up by Kiana Jones deserves to be seen.  That is what l call taking it seriously.
More about it can be found here.

rod stewart - crying and crap

Rod 'The Mod' Stewart - English as tuppence (that will bug him), changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete #.

There he is, crying after Celtic beat FC Barcelona earlier this evening.  It nearly made me cry watching it, as l can relate to the joy and emotion so much.  Good old Rodrick - he hasn't changed.

But then again.........Switch to his recent Las Vegas show, where the old Mod The Rod days are long, long gone and a distant fragment of the past, never to be repeated.  I'm not saying he should forever be singing with what's now left of The Jeff Beck Group or The Faces, but for a man who had so much talent as regards singing and song writing, he has (in my worthless but yet forcefully felt) opinion, thrown so much away in the pursuit of fame and the older dollar.  I can still relate to the second clip though, as the bloke singing along sounds like me on a good night.  This will be all over the TV soon, mark my words.

the art of robin jacques

Well, you certainly live and learn (or at least l do, until my memory plays up).  I never knew until today that Hattie Jacques,  from Hancock's Half Hour and Sykes, (amongst other things) had a brother called Robin Jacques, who was an illustrator.  Not just an illustrator, a damn fine one at that.  Here are some of his works, and there is more about him (and the works) here.
Damn! - I wish l could draw (or even stipple).

obama and his four more years

Christ on a bike, l was hoping Barack Obama was going to get back in, and thought it would be close, but you can never be too sure about trusting the public, either here in dear old Blighty, or over in the good ol' US of A.  I was woken at 4.44am this morning, and as l couldn't get back to sleep, l caught the early result on TV.  An excellent (although tiring) start to the day.   All Hail to the Chief.
Now if we could just sort out the bloody coalition that we are stuck with....

cotton wool in the ear

One of the many joys in life is sticking a cotton bud in your ear and having a good root around.  That is until the stinking cotton comes off the plastic part, and becomes trapped in your ear, which is what happened with this piece of cotton.  I obviously managed to retrieve it in the end, but believe me, it took some getting out.  Will it stop me repeating the actions that caused it to become stuck?  Of course not.  If anything, l now consider it a challenge,  a battle of wills between myself and the cotton buds.  There's only going to be one loser....

the building work behind the arc

It's all going to be a lot different around the Colburn and Catterick area by The Arc, as building work has now started on a load of new houses.  Where all the people are going to work is a puzzle to me, but maybe this might encourage someone to re-open The Colburn Lodge, as that is not far from the (soon to be built) houses.  I'll put up more photographs as it develops.

a quiet night at jt's

After sitting around watching TV on Saturday, l managed to persuade the FPO to hit the White Shops for a drink, as we had already been drinking wine, had run out, and it was only 7.30pm.  We called in at The Wine Bar first, where there was about 3 other people drinking in there.  Nothing that unusual, but on stepping into to J.T's (just around the corner), we thought there must be a football match on the big screen, as it was heaving.  We had only gone and forgotten it was a late Halloween do, so it was  a pretty fun night, mainly talking to Michael and watching the FPO fall over dancing.  She is certainly a classy act once she's had a few ales.  A fun night for all of the family.

david beckham, russell brand and the unidentified fans

The Americans and there knowledge of football.  Here's 'soccer player'  David Beckham with Russell Brand and some 'unidentified' fans.  Just a shame that the person on the right of the photograph is actually a professional football player himself, Robbie Keane, who has only played for Tottenham Hotspur, Dirty Leeds, Liverpool and Celtic (amongst others) as well as being the captain of the Republic of Ireland team.  You would think Reuters would do some checking.

the new york subway after hurricane sandy

I caught the end of a hurricane the very first time l went to New York (while sleeping rough), but it was nowhere as devastating as Hurricane Sandy has been.  I know there has been a lot of damage, it will cost a fortune to sort out, people have died etc, but l would have loved to have been there when it hit.  It's not exactly an experience you can have anytime you want.
More about the aftermath of the storm in New York is here.
