staying at home's not working in richmond

It's all well and good the news outlets showing us deserted city centers due to the Government's Coronavirus Stay at Home advice, but if we are really looking to try and minimise the deaths and infections, restrictions need to be a lot tighter.
I've been traveling to work each day as a key worker, and the roads were pretty empty a couple of weeks ago. They are certainly getting busier and busier now. Below is Richmond, North Yorkshire last Wednesday afternoon, nearly as busy as usual.
Hospital death figures were nearly 1,000 for today, and it is going to get a hell of a lot worse if we continue as we are. However, it wouldn't surprise me if the government was deliberately being lax to sneak in the herd immunity they were after (without adequate testing).
Bastards!

recent trips to the theatre

Some recent trips to the theatre - Darlington Hippodrome to be precise.
The Travelling Wilburys was pretty good, but the worst one of them was 'Bob Dylan', the person l wanted to see the most. However, it was pretty surreal, and had many moving moments, especially watching 'George Harrison' singing My Sweet Lord. I must be getting sadder in my old age (if that's possible).
As for Aladdin - it was just what you would expect from such a show, some moments of hilarity, nothing particularly outstanding, but everyone went away happy, so job done.
I think the next visit there will be for The Meat Loaf Story, even if l will probably be hassled for autographs.
Stone me - what a life.

recent work / holiday stuff

Some bits and pieces from the recent work trip to Fuerteventura at the start of February, including my reading material. As you can tell from the end photographs, the hotel was excellent and also empty - a great combination as far as l'm concerned.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!

it's a hard life

While Britain has been freezing during the last week, l've been off to sunny foreign climes with work, and as you can see by the picture, staying in a  fancy hotel, getting a tan.
It's a hard life.

diversion in the snow

Snow has arrived again around these parts, but let's hope it's not as bad as it was last time for the people who live in Penrith or Threlkeld. This is the diversion they had to take about a month ago when the road between them was unpassable.
Bit of an inconvenience if you had to travel between them to work.

family guy's great job

Family Guy still has the ability to make me laugh out loud at some of their madder moments, and this is an fine example from the other day.
Probably the best job in the world.

ladies who lunch

One of the downsides of working with a load of women - getting dragged out for lunch!
Ah well, at least it's an addition to my ongoing collection of pilfered menus

teeside training instructions

I had to go to Stockton a week or so ago for some training, to a place l hadn't been before.
These are my rather untidy instructions that l put together the night before (at about 2am!).
It may look like gibberish to the ordinary layman, but they make perfect sense to me.

bbc head of crm post available

Thinking of working at the BBC?
There's a job going as head of CRM, l assume to any management geek that can even understand what the job entails.
I'm sad to report that my licence fee pays for this kind of management gobbledygook.
More information here.

breaking regulations with a new kettle

We've just had a catastrophe at work, as the kettle that is in use more or less constantly, gave up the ghost and puffed out it's last bit of steam, much to our dry and opened mouthed dismay. Now that is what we call a crisis.
Luckily for us, Tesco is just up the road, and a new one was purchased immediately for the more than cost effective price of £10. A bargain!
It's a good job those evil bastards across the channel haven't managed to have their way yet with their mamby pamby red tape, at least if the Euro hating scare mongering Daily Express is to be believed #

the recent work cardiff trip

A couple of weeks ago l went away to Cardiff with work for a few days. I'd been to Cardiff (and other parts of Wales) a few times over the years, but all of my previous trips involved travelling, drinking, concerts and nightclubs, so the old memories of the trips can be a bit of a blur. This time however, l went exploring, and, for a change, not just to pubs. Ticked off The Doctor Who Experience (sounds like a 60's band), The Millennium Stadium Tour, and a look around Cardiff Castle, as well as other places such as Spillers records and around the river Taff.
Most enjoyable, and l'd certainly return to Cardiff again. A great place, even if it did take eight and a half hours driving back due to traffic jams and accidents (and only five hours getting there).
Here's a load of evidence

Plus here's my detailed state of the art directions of how to get there.

Luckily l've got a brain like a homing pigeon.
