the original popeye

Here's a fact that not many people know.  Popeye the Sailor Man was based on an actual person. He was a sailor called Frank 'Rocky' Fiegel, who used to work as a bouncer at Wiebusch's Tavern, Chester, Ilinois, where he met Popeye's creator, Elzie C Crisler

The city of Chester is very proud of this, and more info from them can be found here

how germany see us now

Rather sadly, this is how Germany see us at the moment. From 'Der Spiegel'. Roughly translated with my limited German, Boris is saying he wants a total Brexit, and the banner says 'Democracy is the enemy of the people'.

Learn from History folks, and hold these incompetent, lying, hypocritical, money grabbing Tory bastards to account.

new boris cartoons

Been kind of busy (doing nothing) recently with this and that, hence the lack of posts (again). However, here's a couple of recent cartoons that struck home.
The top one is by Cold War Steve, and the bottom by Peter Brookes

the 1967 jungle book animated film - milton 'milt' kahl drawings

As l've said many times - l love the 1967 Jungle Book film, despite it being a bit too long. Anyway, to celebrate the genius of Milton 'Milt' Kahl, here's some of his sketches and drawings for the characters and film. Also, Buzzie and Flaps are shown, but to save you looking it up, the other two birds are called Ziggy and Dizzie.
Enjoy!

snoopy lives his life the way l do

This is my attitude to life . Despite all the crap that is going on, has already happened, or may happen sometime soon, it's not worth worrying about, so enjoy it!
I used to love reading the Charlie Brown / Peanuts books when l was a kid (obviously l still have my old books), so maybe this is where l got my attitude from.

ole ole ole ole - eric cantona is so 'appy

YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a result for Manchester United!  Plus a pretty accurate prediction from Charles M Schulz and the Peanuts crew. Linus would have loved to be in my shoes after that game.
3-1 away from home against Paris Saint Germain!! Through to the Quarter finals!!!!
A dodgy penalty at the end, but l'll take the win any day. To say l'm outrageously happy at the moment would be an understatement.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for manager and president, and Mauricio Pochettino can bugger off to rescue PSG.
Thank fuckity fuck Jose Mourinho got told to fuck off and take his black cloud of misery with him.

Eric Cantona can have the last word - filmed after the game.

rare records cartoon

I can certainly relate to this, although l don't like the way he is manhandling the record.
No wonder l have ended up with Mr Parrot!

And to be extra pedantic - here's what the 1969 RCA pressings looked like (I'll get my own coat).

johnny hart's bc books imitate life

I'm still sorting out the bleeding garage, and earlier today l found a load of old Charlie Brown / Peanuts and Johnny Hart's BC / The King Is A Fink books. Some l've had to throw out as they were water damaged, but flicking through this BC book, it was as if someone had been spying on me and Mr Parrot.

a monster in paris (un monstre a paris) - sean lennon and vanessa paradis

I finally got round to watching the 'A Monster in Paris' animation film the other day, and loved this song by the giant flea ( Francoeur). The lyrics appealed to me the most, to the extent that l checked in the end credits to see who it was by, with the intention of downloading it.
As a  massive (in more ways than one) Beatles fan, you could have knocked me down with a feather (Clever Trevor) when l discovered it was by Sean Lennon, son of John.
Anyone who knows me will now be aware that l will have to dig out all of Sean's solo stuff that l have listened to briefly in the past and then stashed away, in case there are other undiscovered gems to be found.
It's a hard life being interested in everything (and time consuming).

Here's the song with lyrics

And here's the animation version

Also, Vanessa Paradis (as Lucille in the film) sings a pretty fine version of La Seine.
Here's the slow French version, which l, being a cool and trendy dude, prefer.

stephen collins' ed sheeran cartoon

From The Guardian.
Rather sadly, l can relate to this waaaaaay too much. And l used to be so hip.
Ah well - Time for my Ovaltine and off to bed to listen to The Cure (early years).
