a record seller knows his customers

While recently checking out Ebay for an old record (or 'Vinyl' as the kids now call them), l was also shown this selection of other albums available from one of the sellers.
Now, because l am a sad old git, l do already own all of them, but the seller either really knows his market, or Ebay/The Internet are targeting me pretty damn precisely!

robert crumb sums up record collecting

Robert Crumb nails what it's like to be a collector, in this case, of records.
I can relate to it sooo much.

more goodies

More goodies picked up while l've been out and about at the charity shops, plus some swag from 'Sound it Out' records in Stockton.
The pile of books to read is geting bigger.  I managed to read 'Boy about Town' by Tony Fletcher yesterday, but the ongoing mess next to my bed is also growing.
I've said it before, and l will say it again, l need more time off work (or to win the lottery).

bobby the poet - white christmas

Long before the Bob Dylan Christmas album, there was this. A taste of what was to come.
Ladies and gentlemen, l present to you Bobby the Poet, performing 'White Christmas'.
I bet at the time there was no way they would have imagined that their pisstake would come true (unfortunately).

other peoples record collections - dust and grooves

When it comes to records, as with most things in life, l am a sad bastard.
Therefore, l shouldn't be gazing adoringly at other people's collections, as it only makes me envious and jealous. So what on earth have l be doing looking at these this lot, featured in the Dust and Grooves book?
I'm only hurting myself, but if you want to suffer as well, the book can be bought from here.

recent car boot sale purchases

Sometimes it's actually worth dragging myself out of my pit on a Sunday morning.  Here's some recent car boot purchases, some of which l already have, but my old scratched copies will be replaced by these and moved on elsewhere (when l eventually get around to it). Also, l've already read the 100 year old man book on my kindle, l just fancied a hard copy for the bookshelves.
If l only had more money and time on my hands...............(and a bigger house).
I'd be even more of a sad bastard.
And in the meantime, l'm also trying to plough through these..

It's a hard life.

david james' records

The former England goalkeeper, David James, was recently made bankrupt, and his possessions sold. Even me, as a Manchester United fan feels sorry for him, so where are his friends when in his hour of need?. Among the many items on offer were his records, some of which are above, and if they meant half as much to him as my records mean to me, l'd like to think that, even though he is an ex Liverpool player, one of his rich ex footballer spice boys mates may have bought them back for him, but sadly, l don't hold up much hope. But you never know.

car boot sale heaven

I was on sleepover at work last night and finished at 8am this morning, (after staying up till 2.30am and getting up at 6.10am).  On a whim, while driving home, l decided to take a detour and have a look at a local car boot sale, a place l have only ever been to once before, but keep meaning to visit.  I was mighty pleased that l decided to do so, as l ended up buying a total of  23 albums (large CD's that scratch to you kids out there), for a total of  £35, and that was with a load of Beatles singles thrown in for good measure.  I was especially pleased with The Rolling Stones ones, as they are the original unboxed red Decca versions, all in great nick, but some of the LP's l bought are just to replace stuff l already have because they are miles better copies (yeeeeessssss...l know l am a sad bastard, and certainly don't need telling).
Originally, there was a slim chance l was going to do some painting today (as if!), but that went out of the window, and all l've been doing is reading and listening to records (and annoying Mr Parrot).  What bliss.
I've said it before and l'll say it again, l could easily fill a house with records, comics, DVD's etc, but at least l've sorted out some old LP's to give to my sister, so the actual amount of records in the house stays roughly the same.
Then there's the not so small problem of finding loads of spare time to read and listen to everything.  The books in the photograph are recent purchases l have yet to get through, l have another pile of unread ones that remain untouched, as well as the two books l have on the go at the moment (as well as TV shows and football to watch, and going out annoying people to fit in).
Multi tasking is the answer.  I'm currently listening to The Who's 'Quadrophenia' film soundtrack while updating this blog and drinking chilled white wine at the same time, with Mr Parrot sitting on my leg, getting the occasional stroke (me stroking him, not the other way round).
No wonder l fall asleep on trains.

my alternate future

Further to yesterdays post,  if l can just keep things reigned in and organised, the future could be more like the above (but with better albums in the picture frames).
Here's hoping!

my future is staring me in the face

Oh oh!!  Left to my own devices at home, l can see where l am heading.  These pictures are not from my house, but it's only a matter of time......
The thing is, l'd love to have a root amongst those records, but l know l'd want to bring a load back if l did.

richard and willie

I'm all for a bit of dirty, surreal, and political comedy, especially if there is a potty mouthed ventriloquist's dummy thrown in for good measure, but the trouble with these Richard and Willie albums from the late 1960's to the early 1970's, is that they are not that funny, the politics is laboured (not that way) and they are just foul mouthed yet boring (hard to believe, l know). Created by Richard Sanfield (Willie is the dummy) in 1967.  They may be funnier live, but these feature live performances, so l pretty much doubt it.  Bit of a shame really, as the idea is magnificent.
If you want to check out various dummies  through the ages, there's a great site here.

shelf collapse disaster

What a disaster! The extra thick shelf in the spare room that has been up for about 70 years (at a guess), has collapsed under the weight of some of my records and books. This happened just before the Manchester United v Fulham game, so l had to run up and down the stairs to rescue records, books, DVD's and clothes from the collapsed, plaster covered debris. This was just before the kick off, at half time, and just after the game. I have never felt so knackered in all of my life, running up and down the stairs, clearing some of the mess up, taking some of the records downstairs, and trying to fight off an asthma attack with all of the dust flying about (while also celebrating yet another (less than glorious) Manchester United win).
Of course the FPO ignored it all, persevering with her Second Life (the one that's better than her own). At least she informed me that it had happened, so there has been some progress in her development and progress from her addiction to it.
More work to do at the weekend fixing the calamity, but at least l found the LP (Queen live at the BBC bootleg) l had promised to give to Ken Moore  once l remembered where it was. I am way too nice (or stupid) for my own good (but also, still knackered with all the dust flying about).
I blame God (again).
