bruce gilden - faces

Some of New York street photographer Bruce Gilden's 'Faces' project.
Unsettling close ups of 'interesting' characters on the mean streets of the US of A, some of whom you certainly wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
More from his 'Faces', plus other projects, are here.
You want to look away from some of them, but find yourself being drawn in and studying them more.
Or maybe that's just me.

jorg pretz's binary clock

Jorg Pretz, a physicist from  Aachen University, has devised a binary clock that looks like a racked set of balls on a pool table.
The way that it works, is that when the balls are lit, they all symbolise different amounts of time. The top ball is 6 hours, the ones underneath are 2 hours each, the next three are 30 minutes each, the following five are 6 minutes each, and the ones in the bottom row are 1 minute each.
Therefore the time above would be 11.03. It lights red for am, and green for pm.

Much more awkward to read than a normal clock, but I want one!

wildlife travel photographs

I've had these photographs in a file on my computer for a while, but can't remember where l got them from. They are labelled 'Wildlife Travel' on my file, and l guess they must have been winners in a competition, but l don't know which one (and can't be bothered searching).
They are however, very impressive.

brexit sgt pepper picture updated, and leonard cohen - suzanne

Damn!!
Wasn't expecting the Brexit Sgt Pepper picture to be updated so quickly, and with someone l liked so much.
Here it is again, only this time with Leonard Cohen added.

And as a tribute to the sadly departed Mr Cohen......Here's 'Suzanne'

the year so far - brexit sgt pepper

It's been one hell of a year so far, and if you haven't noticed, all of the people on this Brexit Sgt Peppers remake have died in 2016.

strange japanese poster

I'm pretty sure l have put this up before, but if so, it's still worth repeating.
A very strange Japanese (I'm guessing) poster. As for what is being advertised, who on earth knows (unless you can read the script underneath).
If it's for a show, l bet it was pretty unusual and 'challenging', but l would still be interested in seeing it.

lost rolling stones record cover from 1969

I got this from Andrew 'Loog' Oldham's twitter account. He was the (very cool yet annoying to the establishment) manager of  The Rolling Stones back in the 1960's, and this, according to him, is the cover from an unfinished lost album project in 1969.

nevermind by nirvana is 25 years old

The ground breaking masterpiece that was Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album is now 25 years old. The time has flown by, and if the passage of the last 25 years flying by doesn't make you feel old, this photograph will emphasise it even more.
It's Spencer Eldon, the baby featured on the cover, now obviously grown up, and recreating the cover (for about the fifth time).

For the few that don't know - here's the original.

the ron mueck exhibition in edinburgh 2006

Also found while cleaning the spare room. Coincidentally, it was 10 years ago to the day that the FPO and myself went to Edinburgh to drink whisky, and catch the hyperrealistic sculptures at the Ron Mueck exhibition. We succeeded in a right royal fashion.
The top three are art cards that were purchased on exhibition day, plus the ticket and programme. Also, there is a framed poster of  'Mask', the stern looking face at the bottom, in my living room. It keeps the parrot in order (or tries to). As you can probably surmise, we pulled over for some food and drink at The Cat Inn on the way there.
Mmmmm....food.......and drink.....
Ten bleeding years!! Where is the time flying away to?

the ramones first album minus the dead people

The groundbreaking Ramones' first album cover, with all of the dead people removed from it.
What a depressing image.

Remember them this way

serge van de put art and the jungle book original artwork

This looks like Mr Parrot first thing in the morning

Serge Van De Put is a Belgium artists who works with recycled materials such as old rubber tyres.
All well and right on, but forget about the recycled part, his artworks are superb, my favourite being  The Gorillas series, which kind of remind me (in some kind of twisted subconscious way) of Baloo the bear from The Jungle Book.

Talking of The Jungle Book.....here's some of the original artwork from that modern day masterpiece.

optical illusions

I've just completed a course on Intensive Interaction, and as part of the course, we were shown various optical illusions, an art form l've always liked.
I'm not going to show any that we were shown, in case anyone does the course in the future, but here are two recent ones that took my fancy on Facebook.
It took me some time to spot the wall one, but once seen, it can never be unseen.

gary lineker's photograph wall

Am l the only person who may have spotted this last night?
While everyone was celebrating Leicester City winning the Premiership, thanks to the Tottenham v Chelsea draw, Match of the Day showed footage of Gary Lineker and family celebrating at his home. In the background, was an impressive looking wall covered in what seemed like framed family photographs. However, what caught my eye, was that, if you look closely, the pictures are duplicated, which leads me to believe that it may be wallpaper.
That got me thinking even more (a dangerous thing). Maybe they are family photographs, made into strips of wallpaper. Maybe they are different photographs, just very similar. Maybe they are the same photographs, each framed a few times.
Otherwise, it's just crap wallpaper.

I'm amazed my brain doesn't explode with all the useless crap l spend time thinking about.
