strange japanese poster

I'm pretty sure l have put this up before, but if so, it's still worth repeating.
A very strange Japanese (I'm guessing) poster. As for what is being advertised, who on earth knows (unless you can read the script underneath).
If it's for a show, l bet it was pretty unusual and 'challenging', but l would still be interested in seeing it.

japanese batman poster

What a superb poster from Japan for the old Batman film in the 1960's.  That's the way to market a movie!

confessions / kokuhaku (2010) - tetsuya nakashima

A teacher tells her class before she leaves that she knows two of them have murdered her daughter, and she has taken her revenge on them (which they are shocked to discover).  The story then develops, giving alternate viewpoints and showing different time frames, until the unexpected twists at the end.  Confessions / Kokuhaku  is a Japanese film by Tetsuya Nakashama with English subtitles, and it is one of the best films l have seen.  It seems longer than it is, due to the interweaving and dark plot, and it certainly drags you in, gets you involved, and keeps you guessing.  Egotism, bullying, revenge, an Oedipus complex, love, grief, betrayal, inventions, killings, blood and gore, denial, the internet, a dog and some dance moves.  All are present and correct.  Even the soundtrack, featuring Radiohead and The XX (amongst others) is excellent.  What more could you possibly want from a movie?  Marvelous.

world war 2 propaganda posters from japan

These are Japanese  propaganda posters from the Second World War, and they are up for no other reason than they are a fascinating slice of history, and their design and colours are great.  More to follow.

battle royale (2000) - kinji fukasaku

I didn't know what to expect from Battle Royale as a film.  I knew the story, but on settling down to watch it, myself and the FPO agreed we would give it half and hour or so, and if it turns out to be crap, we'd switch it off and watch something else instead.  There was no need to do that though, as this was funny, fast paced, easy to follow, and very (very) violent.
Japan is going to the dogs, and children don't respect their elders (amongst other things), so a school class is selected (without their knowledge) to go onto an  island that has been cleared of it's population, and fight each other to the death until there is only one survivor, who is then returned home.  They are drugged and taken there, given random weapons and provisions, and they have necklaces that explode if there is more than one person left after three days on the island.  Loyalties are tested, grievances are aired, and mayhem ensures.  Excellent stuff.

mitsuhiro kushida - angura (posters of the japanese avant-garde)

 The little match girl

Oedipus at Hiroshima

From the book 'Angura - posters of the Japanese Avant-Garte', these two are by Mitsuhiro Kushida, and are both pretty striking, especially the top one (see what l did there?).
I love a bit of the old Avante-Garde (Phnaar), l love good artwork on posters, and l love Japan.
Quids in.
