jumping from space
So, Felix Baumgartner managed to do his dive from the edge of space and back to Earth in one piece, and the edited video above shows just how high (just over 24 miles) up he was, and how impressive it looked. It's a remarkable thing to do, and is unlikely to be beaten, but it also made me think about the astronauts that risked their lives travelling further out into the great unknown. The most famous ones are the Apollo 11 crew of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, who were the first ones to successfully go to the Moon, land, and then return (although Collins did not go onto the surface). If you are so inclined, the item below is for sale at RR Auctions. It is signed by all three Apollo 11 astronauts, and is a snip at just over $1,500 at present. This is one of the many times when l should be loaded, so l can fill up the house with more junk. Saying that, if l was stinking rich, l'd have a go at doing the jump myself. Anyone can jump, it's the landing you have to worry about..
Phew! I have managed to do the whole piece without going for the obvious 'The Man Who Fell To Earth.'
Damn!

soiled elvis undies for sale
Here's an unusual momento for all you Elvis Presley fans out there who want to own something personal of his. It's a pair of soiled underpants that Elvis wore in 1977, and they are on sale with other Elvis stuff at Omega Auctions (estimate between £7,000 and £9,000). For the fan who has everything. Get some DNA off them and get him cloned!

mexico 1970 panini book
Amongst the many items of crap that l have, there are old football related pictures, 3D cards, books (and flick books), newspapers and programmes. I don't however, have any Panini sticker albums, although l did used to collect them when l was a nipper. I saw this one for sale today. It's from the 1970 World cup in Mexico (the first one l can remember), and is a complete original. Nice . Yours for a mere £1,999,99 (or near offer). Not even l am mad enough to pay that kind of money, even if l was a multi millionaire. I'd like the original, but reproduction copies (obviously in mint condition) can be yours for the less than costly sum of £10. I'm also still pissed off that the programme isn't worth much (less than £10), as l have one of those (somewhere). Ah well, back to the comics (sad git that l am).
The programme
The reproduction, plus stickers

beatles 'a hard day's night' lobby cards
More crap that l could easily collect. Lobby cards from cinema showings. I used to have some when l was younger, but they were lost years ago, when moving house.
Here's some l would like now, The Beatles 'A Hard Day's Night' ones.
Another collection to be cracking on with.

collecting bags
As l often tell the FPO, she should be grateful l am not loaded, as the good old homestead would be full of even more junk.
Here's something else l could easily collect.
Bags.
Yessirie - that is correcumundo - l said bags.
Rather sadly, l used to have a load of plastic ones from stores (record and toy) and my travels, but l am not sure if l still have them (they could be stashed away in the garage).
I really need to get a life.
But saying that........ Here's a website.

life magazine muhammed ali covers
Now l certainly enjoy collecting things (some would say junk), and l certainly have a lot of crap already, but there is soooooooo much more out there that l would also like to get my stinking mitts on. Take these Life Magazines with the Ali covers. Mmmmm, methinks l may have to crumble and add them to the collection. Then again, where will it all end? There are plenty more Life mags where these little beauties came from, and there are plenty more little beauties that l would also like to have. There's the Beatles ones, the wacky ones, the historical ones, the comedy ones................................AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

marc bolan's mr freedom jacket from 'born to boogie'
This has just been sold for £9,375, and was worn by Marc Bolan in the 'Born to Boogie' film.
One of the benefits for the FPO of me not being loaded, is the fact that l do not fill the house with even more junk/memorabilia/worthless artefacts/bits of history, as l would definitely have wanted this (although l very much doubt that l would have been able to squeeze myself into it).

shelves and mini books
I can't remember the name of this chap (and l certainly can't be bothered looking), but he collects mini books and keeps them all in special shelves.
I used to like mini books when l was a nipper, and l am sure you could get some from a machine in Bootle by the four banks roundabout, but l might be cracking up.
Anywhoos, l don't know whether to applaud this fellow or remember how sad he is, as l could so easily go down his anal path of geekdom and nerdness (ooeer missus)

oxford united - it was 27 years ago
Whilst l was sorting out some crap today l found these little beauties, two pennants from about 1973 that l had stashed away. I have always supported Manchester United (it's a long story), but when l used to live at RAF Benson, about 10 miles from Oxford, l used to go and watch all their home games. The bottom two programmes are on sale on Ebay at the moment from the 1973/74 season, one of them being Bristol City on 20th April 1974, so it was just over 27 years ago l was at that. Christ on a bike, what an old bastard l am. Luckily l already have those programmes in my extensive collection. Obviously, because l am a sad hoarding git, l bought all of the programmes at the time, and have not thrown any away. Hurrah!
Notice on the Manchester United pennant, how few honours are on it. Liverpool (where l hailed from) were doing a lot better at the time, and continued to do so throughout the 1970's and 1980's. It's certainly changed since then though, even with King Kenny at the helm. Hurrah again!!

the joy of charity shops
I finished work at 8pm this evening and have the place to myself as the FPO is having a girls night out in Richmond, so it's all blissful until l have to go and pick her up at midnight (when she turns into a pumpkin).
I have been dossing around reading some music magazines that l bought a week or so ago from a charity shop. What a result it was. There was a large cardboard box full of old music mags (Mojo, Classic Rock etc), and all of them at the rather splendid price of 10 pence a copy. Naturally l bought 30 of them straight off, then went back to the shop today to buy some more, but they had all been sold (Damn!).
I suppose it is for my own good really, or more importantly, the poor old floorboards in the spare room, as there are comics, books, records, CDs, DVDs and junk all over the place. The top photos are the top and bottom of my wardrobe. Not a lot of room remaining in there, so l should be cutting down on junk, not increasing it and accumulating more.
Then again, l still bought a couple more books today and have just got another one from Amazon. The madness. It never stops.
