Muhammad Ali was certainly a flawed and sometimes hypocritical human being, and l have a lot of misgivings upon his attitudes towards women (including his wives), homosexuals, Joe Frazier, and 'White Devils', but he was also an intelligent*, quick witted, devilishly handsome, supreme athlete and entertainer, who wasn't afraid to stand up for his beliefs, no matter what the cost. Just a shame that he didn't retire after regaining the title against Leon Spinks in 1978. If you haven't seen them, check out the interviews Ali did with Michael Parkinson over the years. Fascinating stuff.

I know that Elvis Presley did karate, and fancied himself a lot, but if this encounter had ever happened seriously in real life, l know who my money would have been on, even if Muhammad Ali appears to be wearing a spangled dressing gown.

Ali is 70 years old.  Where in the world does the time disappear to?  Quite simply, to me, and many others around the world, Muhammad Ali is, and will always be, the greatest. He had everything. Great looks, true belief in himself, a serious attitude and conviction of what he thought was right, was not afraid to stand up to the government, and my oh my, the boy sure was funny, quick witted and sassy.

After posting the Ali Life covers the other day (here), l re-read an article by Mark Kram for Sports Illustrated about the 'Thrilla In Manila', which included this quote by 'Smokin Joe' Frazier.

"Man, I hit him with punches that'd bring down the walls of a city,". "Lawdy, Lawdy, he's a great champion.".

The article itself is one of the best ever and is here.

This was a time when it meant something to be heavyweight champion of the world, and there were a few people who were (more or less) evenly matched who could all have taken on that role (although Ali was still a God, even if he was often written off at the time).

Then it all became mismanaged and crap.

Now l certainly enjoy collecting things (some would say junk), and l certainly have a lot of crap already, but there is soooooooo much more out there that l would also like to get my stinking mitts on. Take these Life Magazines with the Ali covers. Mmmmm, methinks l may have to crumble and add them to the collection. Then again, where will it all end? There are plenty more Life mags where these little beauties came from, and there are plenty more little beauties that l would also like to have. There's the Beatles ones, the wacky ones, the historical ones, the comedy ones................................AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

What a handsome, cool, hard, funny and intelligent guy he was.

It bought a tear to my eye seeing him carrying the Olympic torch in 1996.

Still cheated 'Our 'Enry' out of a title though.

@dudetube911 He is a great human being, and I believe God loves Ali so much that he made Ali suffer from the disease so all his sins could be burnt away and so Ali can go to heaven as a pure soul because he deserves it.
