Nothing to see here, just John Lennon of The Beatles pratting about pretending to sniff coke during the 'A Hard Days Night' film. Way back in 1964.

today's budget and britannia unchained - with added Crispin Odey
For anyone who voted Conservative and are now complaining about them being a bunch of reverse Robin Hoods, who punish the poor and help the rich, don't say you hadn't been warned. Some of the main offenders wrote Britannia Unchained, in which they describe the poor as the worst idlers in the world, who's rights should be stripped away (which they are about to do), and forget about sharing the pie of wealth. As they are also supported by dark money think tanks from Tufton Street, have promoted Brexit and bet against the pound, taken money from Russia, landlords and fossil fuel companies, they've been hiding in plain site, but defended and encouraged by the right wing press, which themselves are funded by their non dom self serving owners. Bastards!!!!
If you want to read or download the Britannia Unchained book, it's available here, Read it, weep for the country, and don't ever vote Tory.
In unrelated news from Reuters - Crispin Odey. Who runs Odey Asset Management, where Kwasi Kwartang used to work, has coincidentally been making a killing wagering against UK bonds, (as does one of Jacob Rees Moggs enterprises). And don't forget Liz Truss worked for Shell. These people don't have yours or the countries interests at heart.

cliff and norm from cheers
Although Cliff Claven (John Ratzenberger) and Norm Peterson (George Wendt) always seemed ancient when l was watching the USA TV series Cheers back in the day, here's a reminder that they were aged 35 and 33 at the time it started.

rudolf nureyev's tomb
With all the recent coverage of funerals and death, here's one of the most impressive graves l've seen. It's Russian dancer / choreographer Rudolf Nureyev's, it's in Russia, and is made from bronze and glass. Admit it - it's very cool!
jean-paul satre's funeral
When a respected intellectual dies in France, there is full on mourning and a celebration of their life. Here's Jean-Paul Satre's funeral in 1980.

watneys red - the red revolution is here!
I'd like to say this was my favourite drink back in the day. Rather sadly, l couldn't stand it, as l prefer lager. I certainly admired and supported the sentiment (rather than the sediment).

robert whitaker beatles screen prints
First time l've seen these, but l like them (even though Paul doesn't look his usual pretty self). Beatles screen prints by Robert Whitaker, the photographer who took the famous 'Butcher Cover' Beatles photographs.

a happy mash reunion
At last some good news. A nice picture of Alan Alda and Mike Farrell, the stars from the M.A.S.H TV series together to celebrate 50 years of the show. It hasn't been repeated on British TV recently, but what a magnificent show it was, and it certainly appealed to my dry, sarcastic, antiauthoritarian black humour.

fascism on the rise
Noting to see here at the Good ol' Party's Republican conference in Youngstown, Ohio. Apart from the obvious blind loyalty and fascist leanings that, as l've been harping on about for a while, is putting democracy and the future of the United States at great risk.
Rather sadly, it's not just in America that this is happening as the far right have been increasing their power across Europe (Sweden and France being two examples). The Trump methods have also been co-opted by the Conservative party, who have been trying to enshrine their power by chipping away at our rights, ignoring parliamentary laws, and just blatantly lying to the public while enriching their backers and friends. People who favour democracy in the UK should be mightily wary, and make sure they get out and vote at the next election to get rid of them, even if that means voting tactically. Get rid of The Conservatives first, and then vote for a party that supports the many, not the few.

morten morland cartoon regarding the queens death
Despite me being a republican, this is an heartbreakingly poignant cartoon in todays The Times newspaper by Morten Morland which (to me a least) highlights why a lot of people will identify with The Queens funeral. Personally, l think she has done a superb job she was born into, but l would rather have a republican democracy from now on, or at least from when Charles passes on. Remember, if Andrew had been older than Charles, or Charles had died earlier, he would now be King Andrew (The Nonce), rather than in jail, or on trial to try and clear his name.
photographs from the first glastonbury festival
Photographs from the first Glastonbury Festival in September 1970, when it was hippie central, from Manchester Evening News. To say it's changed a bit would be stating the bleeding obvious. More photographs can be found here.

the dandy annual 1972
I was flicking through an old annual of The Dandy from 1972 this morning (as you do). The cover looks so innocent and and innocuous, but let's just say the content hasn't aged well and would certainly not be printed today.
Another part of my childhood ruined!!!

russia or england?
Because l'm a very old man, l can remember as far back as March 2022 when there was outrage and ridicule in the UK when Russian police arrested protesters for carrying blank signs. It's no good just agreeing with the right to protest when you agree with protesters viewpoints, it should be (and has been) a basic right to help prevent the rise of fascism. The laws have slowly been changed in the UK to prevent you being able to gather and protest, and expect more to be pushed through in the very near future. The start will be leaving the European Court of Human Rights. Bastards!!
Vote for whoever will get the Tories out.

formally known as prince
The artist formally known as Prince. Also, a man is now Queen. How woke is that?
In other news, the person in the last post was put in charge of health, and Liz Truss, the would be fascist ERG figurehead and dictator had just been to see the Queen. I'm saying no more
