the wasted ladies of middlesbrough and catterick

While we were at Robbo and Kerry's the other night after visiting little Jamie (Damn! l meant Cairon) , Robbo dug out some photos while Kerry was busy (doing what - l cannot say).
Anyway, as is my wont, l swiped a few of the pics (they'll get them back the next time l see them) to do some scans, of which, this was one.
Our wasted ladies.
Altogether now..."All you need is love.."

it was 3 years ago today - edna's funeral

Time certainly is flying by. It was three years ago today that l was down in Walsall with the FPO and her family for the funeral of her grandmother on her mothers side, Edna (Collins).
It certainly wasn't a solemn occasion, and we had a good time down there, but it was made better by the fact Edna had not been scared of death, as she was very religious, and she looked forward to meeting up with her husband again (who was already dead).
I don't believe in the afterlife myself, but if it gave her comfort, and supported her during her illness, that's certainly fine by me.

baby time in the boro and the state of kfc

The small bladdered fool had to visit the toilet

The mother (Kerry) has left the ward.

Went to James Cook with the FPO yesterday evening to see Robbo, Kerry and the no longer little Jamie (but still little, Ciaran). There was some hassle getting there, as the A66 was closed, so after a long detour around Darlington and up the A1, it was past visiting time to see the baby. Luckily Kerry went with along with Mandy pushing her wheelchair, so a disaster was avoided, as they both managed to get in. Meanwhile, myself and Robbo went for a man to man chat about the changing ways of the world, and the great responsibility now bestowed upon him (a bit like Spider-man).
We're saving the champers until the Manchester United v Chelsea game on Sunday, as we're going up to their place to watch it.
Decided against a KFC on the way home, as the place looked so grotty, and they were taking ages to serve.
Why is that often the case? It must be advantageous to them if they hired extra staff to work or clean up, as it would encourage more custom and profits. I love KFC food, but the outlets do not compete with the cleanliness of a McDonald's, and they are certainly making loads of money (and l don't even like burgers).
Colonel (or his modern day counterpart) - get it sorted, as l had to settle for some Morrisons fajitas instead.

out for lunch with the crazy cats

Trying to snow in Tunstal

Dragged myself out of bed this morning to watch The Sunday Supplement, then went off to to Louise and Dazzer's  for Sunday lunch, prepared by Dazzer and eaten in a kitchen that could well have been one in Beirut, as it needs plastering, painting, and units put in. Apart from that, it's great, and they at least have a new cooker.
The food had a bit too much on the old vegetable side for me, but there was cans with it, and it was nice and tasty otherwise.
Myself and Daz persuaded our FPO's to let us bugger off to the pub in Tunstall for an hour and a half afterwards (we have to obey a tight and strict schedule), but unfortunately for us (and luckily for the girls), it was (as we suspected it might be) closed. What a swine of a result (a bit like Liverpool v United yesterday).
We sulked back to the house, had another can of wife beater, then myself and the FPO returned home, where l promptly fell asleep reading in the bath (water in first).
Watched the last episode of Misfits (series three) which we had taped before Christmas, then it was the computer for me, bed for the sap who has to get up in the morning for work.
It's great being off work (not back until Tuesday afternoon).

my uncle ray - l love the man

While l was prating about on the internet today, l came across a picture of my uncle Ray and his wife (Maria) with one of their sons (they have three), Gary, (and his own family). It was really good to stumble upon this, as Ray was a star when l was younger, taking me to see Manchester United as soon as l showed any kind of interest in football (he supported them already, even though he had lived in Liverpool all his life). This was back in the mid 1960's, so it was before the glorious night of Wembley 1968 and all that went afterwards, and he was also like a surrogate father to me, as my own one was often a insensitive bastard when l was a kid. He still lives in Liverpool, we both still follow Manchester United, and l can't thank him enough for what he did for me. Even though l had to suffer the 1970's and 1980's with Liverpool winning everything, it was still worth it (especially in the last decade or so). Ray - you were (and still are) a star.

everybodys fine (2009) - kirk jones

Robert De Niro plays his put upon (widowed) father role and goes around the country to visit (and surprise) his children after they say they cannot make a reunion meal. He is advised by his doctor not to travel due to his ill health, thinks 'Everybody's Fine', but soon discovers his children may have been giving him false information about how well they are doing (because they have issues - yawn). It was OK, but l certainly wouldn't watch it again, and l wish De Niro would pack in these roles and get back to being a scary fellow you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alleyway.

at the caravan site and off work

Hurrah! I have been slaving away for the last week or so, but l am now off until Thursday afternoon. Haven't done a lot recently, apart from myself and the FPO visiting the relatives at the caravan site by Richmond on Saturday (they were calling in there, they are not travellers), but that was only because there was an offer of free hot dogs with onions laid on the table (in both senses). We all managed to fit into the caravan, despite the kiddie toys on the floor (I hope they were Lauren's), and we also managed a brief visit to the river before l had to head back, as l was working that afternoon/evening. On Sunday, Robbo and Kerry called round for the footie, but the less said about that the better (apart from little Jamie kicking my head). I actually finished work yesterday evening, but stayed up watching the first series of 'Pete Versus Life' into the early hours, as l had not seen any of them before. They were well worth the late night effort, and the show has really impressed me, it's both off beat and original. Rather sadly, I was then woken this morning by the FPO getting ready for work, so l was up and out of bed, downstairs and watching films by 7am (hence the reviews below). What a nightmare, but l just couldn't get back to sleep. I have been alternating between TV and the computer all morning, as l still feel tired, so l don't want to read a book at the moment. At least there is football on again tonight, time for United to repair their reputation against the mighty Aldershot in the Mickey Mouse Cup, in preparation for the Everton game on Saturday (when l am off for the weekend! - and there is a party!). No doubt little Michael Owen will score again and there will be a campaign for him to be recalled for England (yawn). It's a hard life, but you can't let the bastards grind you down.

how to get rid of people using gravy

For some mad reason the FPO decided to invite the family round for lunch at the weekend, destroying my peace, quiet and happy home. I was even sent to the shops after finishing work to buy sausages (with firm instructions not to buy any cheap ones), cauliflower and booze. On returning home, I tried to watch 'The Sunday Supplement' before anyone turned up, but fell asleep on the settee within about 5 minutes, to be woken with Rook at the door, as a prelude to everyone else arriving. All was going swimmingly once everyone had settled down with a drink, as l was royally entertaining everyone while the FPO was in the kitchen, slaving away cooking (as she should). However, when it was food time, l poured the gravy onto everybodies plates. Where's the harm in this you may ask. Ah, there's the rub...when pouring it onto Louise's plate, little Lol put her hand in it and obviously got burned (slightly, as l have the reflexes of a mongoose and wiped it off). Lol was crying on and off after that (probably scared l was going to throw some more over her) and Louise and Dazzer took her home early, leaving us with Rook and Deb. Still, we then had a good night, watched 'Later' with Jools Holland, and all got drunk. I'll have to remember the gravy trick next time l want some solitude. Everyone has now been warned!
# Postscript - the baby is fine with no injuries, so don't bother calling Childline.

hayley's gone off to norwich

A long day out today, as we (myself, the FPO and my sister) took my sister's daughter (Hayley) to Norwich, where she is going to be studying at the University of Eat Anglia. Even without any traffic jams, it was still over 4 hours each way, and we were pretty pleased to be back home again afterwards. The FPO drove there and back, which was a blessing, but l had trouble trying to stay awake on the way back, as l was just sitting there. Obviously l was woken every time we arrived at a roundabout, as directions would be required, but it was quite nice dropping off to the sounds from the CD player. It was a bit daunting for Hayley being left there by herself, but she met some of the other students before we left (who looked about 13), and l am sure she will be fine after a short while, as she is used to being pretty self sufficient. She will be a changed person by the time she completes her course, and l suppose l should be saving up, as l said l would pay for her to go to New York if she completed a degree (unless the sweet release of death gets to me first). As she is in the halls of residence for the first year, there is no room to crash out if we fancied a night out down there, so that may have to wait until she is sharing a house in the second and third year. She has been warned.

chris and hilary's wedding

Travelled back up to Newcastle on Saturday as it was Chris and Hilary's wedding day (on my birthday and wedding anniversary as well!). Managed to go to Forbidden planet beforehand, looking for decent books and t shirts, and went back to our hotel for the Manchester United win at Bolton (5-0!). Off to The Baltic for the evening do/BBQ and saw the Millennium bridge being opened, which was the first time l had witnessed it. Pretty damn impressive l must say. There was a band on and most people hit the booze (apart from the pregnant ladies), so everyone enjoyed themselves, although mentioning no names, they paid for it in the morning (OK, l've crumbled, that would be The FPO). The Quayside at Newcastle and Gateshead (plus Newcastle centre itself) has certainly had a lot of money pumped into it over the last few years, and has completely changed from when l used to frequent the place years ago. It certainly all looks flash and l know it has made the place more upmarket, but it is still a shame some of the old places had to go, such as The Haymarket and Broken Doll pubs. I drove back as The FPO was still too ill, then had a relaxing day watching recordings of football and The Sunday Supplement, while she quietly suffered, Bliss.
