more shelving nearly finished
I've nearly finished putting together yet more shelving, this time for some of my CDs. However, l want two of these, but bought one first to make sure it was of decent quality. Of course now l've gone to try and order the second matching one, they are sold out everywhere in this colour. Bugger! I now have to wait for them to be back in stock, or change my well made plans of where l am going to put it.

keith richards and looking cool
I guess it depends on the drugs, your constitution, and your age, but at one time the great Keith Richards could look cool even when he's zonked out. A few years later, less so even when awake.
Mind you, much as l've tried to model myself on Keef, nowadays l'm more like this (but with ears), so it's all relative.

elvis presley - epic : elvis presley in concert
After being recommended by a couple of mates to do so, I went to see the new Elvis Presley film this morning, and l have to say, it was rather magnificent. Featuring Elvis at his peak in concert and rehearsals, it emphasised the charisma, stage presence, humour and voice, and my oh my, what a voice he had. Recommended, especially as l experienced it, in a cinema with only one other person.

manchester united's old midfield
As Manchester United's unbeaten run under Michael Carrick comes to an end at Newcastle, how l pine for the days when we had these two in midfield. Captain Marvel and the Wonderkid.
dividing england into thirds - l'm from the midlands?
What the actual fuck? I'm not from the fucking midlands!!! As far as l'm concerned, Liverpool is north, as is where l live today, so they can bugger off.

I like boobs probably more than the average bloke, but £429 for this? I've a strong suspicion that Jonathan Adler is taking the piss.

l stand with spain and france
Well done for calling it out as it is. More leaders should do the same and stand together to face the inevitable tariff rises and sanctions from the deranged orange kiddie shagger.

Hats aloft to Stuart Redler for this great shot / shots of The (rather magnificent) Cure's Robert Smith for Blitz magazine, 1985.

there's no pleasing the right wing press over migrants
Get the migrant situation under control the right wing press have been screaming, and the minute Labour start doing so, it's a disaster for the country. A good reason why Labour should not try pandering to them (and their rich offshore owners) at all. Or potential racist or right wing Reform voters. Be socialist and be proud of it.

mr nobody against putin
I watched this documentary a couple of weeks ago and can highly recommend it. Very pleased indeed it has just won a Bafta, but it highlights how quickly events and dictators can utilise all the propaganda methods at their disposal, and should be a warning for Britain regarding the rise of Reform with the backing of the right wing press and tech bosses.

how newspapers frame their narrative
One of my most memorable lessons at school (many years ago) was looking at different newspapers covering the same story and how they reacted to it it, whether supporting or criticising the event in question, depending upon who their paymaster was (and therefore their political stance). Here's a couple of recent examples from The New York Times of how newspapers still frame their headlines to support or throw doubt.
Toodle pipdubai emergency alerts in a foreign language
Imagine the fuss this nasty right wing mouthpiece would be kicking up if the UK issued emergency alerts in other languages for 'foreigners who haven't accumulated and learnt the language of the country they've moved to'. I bet that pretty soon if the bombing continue she'll be looking at fleeing a war zone for safety, hopefully in her case to 'the nearest safe country', but l also suspect the tax avoiding putting the UK down twats will expect us taxpayers to come to their rescue (and they'll still complain).
more boat refugees spotted (tice and oakeshott)
As Tice plays the hero and comes to the rescue, what to do with this war fleeing couple of lovebirds?
In this instance I'd ask the French to take the tax avoiding hate mongering right wing twats back (or send them to Rwanda). It's what they have been insisting should happen to others.

when footballers were normal men - the great dixie dean
At one time footballers were men of the people and lived alongside their fans, probably buying a pub after they retire. I do think they should have been paid a lot more years ago, as it's such a short career, and there was a lot of money floating about, but it's also heartwarming to see the likes of the great Dixie (60 goals in a season) Dean of Everton pulling pints in his pub, The Dublin Packet in Cheshire, 1950. It's apparently still called 'Dixies' bye the older folk around there.

laura loomer tries to stir up more hatred
This is an advisor to President Trump. Now replace 'Muslims' with 'Blacks', 'Irish' or 'Protestants' (or any other religious belief) and see how wrong this is. This is all about division and hatred, and leads to some very dark places.

def leppard at the fforde green hotel, leeds.
Oh to be young again. I already had Def Leppard's first independently pressed single and hitch hiked to see them at Leeds Fforde Green hotel on this tour, met them afterwards, got on famously, and should really have stayed in touch, especially after they became so successful in America, but l foolishly rebuked their offers of being put on the guest lists etc. I did get an ultra rare t-shirt which l ended up giving to my sister but hey ho such is life. Also saw them at the Newcastle Mayfair gig at the end of the tour and supporting Sammy Hagar and others around that time. They were great, and obviously heavily influenced by Thin Lizzy (from what l remember).
