Booze, news and views from a drunken opinionated fool who can't spell very well, may well repeat himself, and can't blame it on dislexia

Get rid of Gareth Southgate. Way too cautious and defensive, and we've got to the final more through luck, perseverance and individual moments from outstanding talents, not good management. I still haven't forgiven him for the way we capitulated after going ahead against Italy in the last Euros, when we had them on the ropes and should have gone for it, rather than dropping back and inviting the pressure, as they have done so often. England had a decent 30 minutes in the first game, an excellent first half against The Netherlands, and rode their luck for the rest of the tournament, against some teams that were nowhere near top flight, apart from Spain.

Trust me on this - This will be the conversation amongst many in the pub before this evenings game. The thing is, I agree with the general sentiment (although not in such a harsh way). When having these discussions, blokes (and it generally is blokes) are obviously referring to the mens football team, and their history, plus their own personal experiences and history of supporting them, sometimes going back decades, and it's that history that make the odd win extra special. The womens football achievements are separate, the same as an England (mens) under 21 team, or an England paraplegic team winning their tournaments would be. All representing England and rightfully proud of their achievements, but also separate from each other and their own sometimes marvellous achievements. It's the history of defeats, poor performances, mismanagements, bad luck, rivalries and embarrassments that make occasional victories sweeter. The same as club football. Anyway, heading there in a few minutes, so l will find out.
Kate Andrews can fuck off - no we are most definitely not all MAGA. After Trumps attempted assassination attempt earlier the violent rhetoric will be ramped up by the Republicans, and some have already tried to blame the Democrats and / or Joe Biden for the attempt. This is of course ignoring Donald Trump's record of mocking the handicapped and assassination attempts (plus serious injury) to the Pelosi's, instigating an insurgence on the capital which caused loss of life after refusing to accept the election result, pandering to the NRA while Republicans pose with their high powered rifles and wear images of them, and even shouting 'Fight Fight' as he was led away from the shooting. His supporters at the rally were blaming the press straight away, aggressively threatening and shouting at them (while no doubt thanking God for saving their glorious leader). Imagine the retaliation that would be taking place in the country if the shooter hadn't been a young white registered Republican? Imagine for even a second what the consequences would be if he had been Mexican, black, Muslim or even 'Woke'. The USA is more divided and deranged that it has been for decades, with civil war a not too imaginary possibility, and much of that is down to Trump himself, although ably assisted by his deluded power hungry backers on TV and in the Senate, plus the idiotic rally going Fox News watching mainstream media hating supporters who Trump is taking the piss out of. Sometimes you reap what you sew in this word, but unfortunately the last photograph below will probably seal him the election, as it will appeal to his MAGA disciples, plus it triggers memories of the famous Iwo Jima photograph by Jim Rosenthal. If there was ever a time Democrat's and left leaning folk need to get out and make their vote count, even if it's for a plate of cold custard versus Trump, it's now, otherwise they will spend many many years regretting not doing so. Buckle up - it's going to be a bumpy ride.
This idiot is an elected representative.
Watching the images from Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding in Mumbai, I wondered what the twat that is Boris Johnson reminded me off, and it's both of the pictures below this one I wonder what his (current) wife see in the self promoting narcissistic multi millionaire with the gilt edged lifestyle? Certainly not his looks. Let's get the Russian report published and get him prosecuted.
Despite being told numerous times that l should visit Australia and l would 'really like it', there's always something holding me back. The likes of this luring in my room. No thank you - I'II pass.
First of all there's hope in the Junior Doctors pay dispute - who would have guessed that actually meeting with them would help with bringing the dispute to an end? It's so good to finally have a grown up sensible government.
Me in the pub arguing it was never a penalty#. The Netherlands have a good reason to be fuming about it, but it's about time England got a lucky break decision wise.
# Also me in the pub trying to persuade people to vote Labour.
Toodle pipAnother tight game and another last minute goal, but at least England played better, especially in the first half. Then again, l don't think we should have had the penalty, and listening to the commentary none of them expected it either - very soft. We're relying on last minute goals and penalties so far, and really riding our luck, and l certainly don't think Gareth Southgate deserves loads of praise for the performances so far, as it could easily have gone pear shaped. Let's see what the final on Sunday delivers, but l don't hold out much hope. Mind you, l have occasionally been proved wrong in the past, so fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, here's England's top boys looking for trouble before the game. What a tasty looking firm.
I realise l am a madman who does not need this boxset, but of course l have already ordered it and can't wait for it to be released so l can dive into it's contents. I love these reasonably priced boxsets Bob Dylan has been releasing, and will be happy to buy more in the future. Mind you, I think l need professional help.
I'm against big game hunting, (or any hunting actually), but l would happily take it up to hunt down the two blokes behind the dead elephant. Twats.
Another excellent (unexpected) result to defeat the fascists (for the time being). France - you done good, although there will be many disagreements ahead.
America - your turn next.
Some excellent photographs of a squirrel smelling a flower by Dick Van Dujin to help brighten up your day. Try to enjoy your life - you only get one chance.
So all of a sudden The Daily Mail are in favour of economic migration? I guess they still won't be regarding people who want to come here. A hateful right winged rag. Don't buy it.
Toodle pipMoved here when he was 14, a privately educated millionaire banker, who fails to realise a lot of people will vote Reform to stop people like him emigrating here, and would certainly refer to him in racist terms. Willing to sell out his relatives, countrymen and friends for more money and power. Knobhead.
When everything was rosy with the world. Manchester United - Better under Labour. Fingers crossed for next season!
