Liz Truss nails it again.
Booze, news and views from a drunken opinionated fool who can't spell very well, may well repeat himself, and can't blame it on dislexia

l'm a mastermind champion!
Out of curiosity, l was looking online for Rolling Stones or Beatles questions that had been on the BBC series Mastermind, to see how many l cold answer without studying. Not a lot of success, but l found a Mastermind quiz on their website, so did that instead. Had a couple of guesses (Harry Potter for one), but pleased with the score. Looks like the drink and drugs abuse hasn't taken it's toll yet!

unfortunate headlines and latest tory crap
Today's newspaper headlines, released the day after Liz Truss announced on TV that there was no going back on the 45p tax cut for the rich.
Of course Kwasi Kwarteng then went on TV this morning and announced a U Turn on it (although they are still cutting public services).
As for the think piece further down, it was in yesterdays Financial Times, which normally supports the Conservatives 100%. This demonstrates how far the Tories have fallen in their estimation.
They really are in trouble.
Never vote Tory.

one way to finish work
Call me an old cynic, but l don't believe this guy spent all that money in one weekend, but whatever he did spend, that's one hell of a way to finish at your job. My employers had better be on their guard.

jh lynch's tina
As found in many working class homes back in the day, including mine. A framed print of 'Tina', by JH Lynch. Now becoming collectable.
There's some more here.
Toodle pipgeorge best at fulham
Obviously l know that George Best played for many clubs after leaving Manchester United, but looking at this old profile, it still seems strange not seeing him in a Manchester United shirt, and still messes with my tiny brained head.
erling haaland is a monster
After helping to ruin my day today, Erling Haaland leaps to the top of the table for the Premierships fasted three hat-tricks. He's a great player, but at the wrong club in Manchester.

michael fabricant does something good
After Dom Hauschild (who writes for The Times) stated that he had witnessed Michael Fabricant being assaulted on his way in to todays Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, Fabricant put up this message to call it out as wrong. It's not often (never so far) l have much time for Fabricant, but well done to him for this, for which he has garnered some respect from me, and hopefully many more.
Seeing a Conservative MP doing the right thing. I'm amazed. The original tweet is below.

liz truss' british gas update
As the Prime Minister (for now) Liz Truss continues her rounds of TV car crash interviews, British Gas feel the need to take out full page adverts to dispel the misinformation she has been sprouting about help with bills and price caps. What a time to be alive.

the telegraph's undiscovered beatles photograph, and real undiscovered beatles photographs
From The Telegraph. The only problem with the article is that the colour photograph of The Beatles (supposedly unearthed after six decades) has been in the public domain for years. Very shoddy reporting and fact checking from the Tory loving rag (who also repeated the untrue 'Ringo not the best drummer in The Beatles' slur).
If you really want to see newly discovered Beatles photographs, look further below, taken in July 1961 at The Cavern after they had just returned from Hamburg, and when they were looking pretty skinny (in their leather trousers). Probably due to their diet of speed and fags. Discovered by Mark Lewisholm.

marco melgrati artwork
A superb piece of art by Marco Melgrati concerning the protests in Iran, which works on many levels.

From The Times. They are just taking the piss, but at least showing their true colours before the next election.
Never vote Tory.

That's the rest of my day sorted.

wyatt earp and the fa cup final
It's always hard to imagine people from the wild west living in the modern age, but here's a picture of Wyatt Earp, made famous by the 'Gunfight at the OK Coral', at home, in 1923, when he was 75. That's five years after the end of the First World War, and the same year as the 'white horse' FA Cup Final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United (the first one to be played at Wembley).
only a flesh wound
Cutting the grass recently, l came across this crime scene at the bottom of the garden. I hope that it's the remains of a struggle and the intended victim managed to get away, but l fear not. One of the unpleasant aspects of living next to countryside, raw in tooth and claw.
fine dining
The last decent meal l had - last Sunday. Healthy it was not, but as l've been on painkillers this week, l haven't been feeling hungry, and l knew it would be the last time l could eat a large amount for a while.

operation time
This was me on Monday this week in my James Cook hospital gown and stockings, plus borrowed slippers, about to go in for an operation for a couple of hernias. It's now Thursday, I'm back at home (since Tuesday), and l've done bugger all apart from sit in front of the TV watching 'Justified' and the new Marilyn Monroe based film 'Blond'. Thought l was going to be off work for three weeks, but was told after the operation that it would be more like six to eight, so plenty of time to catch up with shows, films, books and music, as l can't do much else at the moment. I envisage pressure sores on my arse in the near future.

truss is a twat part 467
After days of silence, apart from welcoming the new fascist leader of Italy and the obvious clutching at straws with Ukraine, our new and glorious leader Liz Truss went on a media round of national radio interviews this morning (five minutes each). All filled with insightful, well researched economic plans to get us out of our current self inflicted crisis.
Oh...Hold on a minute.....Maybe she may have just been trying to stick to a (misleading) script for the short amount of time she was interviewed. What a car crash, made even sweeter by the fact they probably thought short regional interviews would be an easier ride for them.
While in the real world.....Toodle pip

today's budget and britannia unchained - with added Crispin Odey
For anyone who voted Conservative and are now complaining about them being a bunch of reverse Robin Hoods, who punish the poor and help the rich, don't say you hadn't been warned. Some of the main offenders wrote Britannia Unchained, in which they describe the poor as the worst idlers in the world, who's rights should be stripped away (which they are about to do), and forget about sharing the pie of wealth. As they are also supported by dark money think tanks from Tufton Street, have promoted Brexit and bet against the pound, taken money from Russia, landlords and fossil fuel companies, they've been hiding in plain site, but defended and encouraged by the right wing press, which themselves are funded by their non dom self serving owners. Bastards!!!!
If you want to read or download the Britannia Unchained book, it's available here, Read it, weep for the country, and don't ever vote Tory.
In unrelated news from Reuters - Crispin Odey. Who runs Odey Asset Management, where Kwasi Kwartang used to work, has coincidentally been making a killing wagering against UK bonds, (as does one of Jacob Rees Moggs enterprises). And don't forget Liz Truss worked for Shell. These people don't have yours or the countries interests at heart.

cliff and norm from cheers
Although Cliff Claven (John Ratzenberger) and Norm Peterson (George Wendt) always seemed ancient when l was watching the USA TV series Cheers back in the day, here's a reminder that they were aged 35 and 33 at the time it started.

rudolf nureyev's tomb
With all the recent coverage of funerals and death, here's one of the most impressive graves l've seen. It's Russian dancer / choreographer Rudolf Nureyev's, it's in Russia, and is made from bronze and glass. Admit it - it's very cool!

I'd like to say this was my favourite drink back in the day. Rather sadly, l couldn't stand it, as l prefer lager. I certainly admired and supported the sentiment (rather than the sediment).
