I was shown the images of 'immigrants invading Spain' in the pub earlier this evening with the usual rhetoric of 'they are all badies heading here to sponge off our over generous benefits system'. I was mocked for saying l would investigate when l got home, but the slightest glance at the actual news revealed the 'invaders' were still in North Africa, just on a part of Spanish territory, and with probably no wish to travel any further. One thing we did agree about in the pub was that social media (especially Musk) is stirring up crap and trying to divide people with outright lies. The right wing fuckers in positions of power also do so, despite being aware of the facts, as immigration stokes fear and is a good way of scaring, annoying, and enticing voters to your variation of 'they are all rapists, murderers, scroungers, not of our culture, fighting age people to be frightened of' etc. Don't trust a lot of the billionaire owned press and check facts, although in reality, people will just see the headlines and right wing quotes, so the plan to stoke division works. Hence the rise of the far right across Europe. This time it's the dark skinned and Muslims being scapegoated, but it could just as easily be The Jews, The Polish, The Turks, The Irish, The unemployed or disabled, 'Communists', 'Antifa', or you and me. A sad replay of the 1930's, and we all know how that ended. Fuckers.
