newspaper bias

the covid 19 vaccination rollout

Because of my line of work, l've already had my Covid 19 vaccination, but the following statement certainly made me chuckle.

a day in the life of tom baker, plus a dodgy old radio times cover about dr who

I'm pretty sure l've posted this before, but what the hell, it's always worth putting up.

Tom Baker's 'A Day In The Life Of' from a 1978 edition of 'The Sunday Times' newspaper, when he was still 'Dr Who' to all and sundry.  Mr Baker and his crowd certainly liked the odd tipple or two, and it's amazing any work was done at all, although he does state that this is a day when he is not filming, and reminds the reader that he did walk away from being a Monk for the women and drink.  By Jeffrey Bernard, on one of the occasions he was not 'Unwell'.

And on a related Dr Who theme, here's the cover of Radio Times from over 50 years ago (January 1971). It's promoting the Dr Who series with what looks to my corrupted eyes like a dodgy sexualised cover, as a hypnotised Jo Grant states she will 'Obey The Master'.

Saucy!

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Down By the Riverside

The Swan Silvertones - Sinner Man

Nearer my God to Thee - Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers

I've posted this before, but it's worth a repeat on  a Sunday morning. The song, singing, passion, and crowd reaction on this just builds and builds.  I'd loved to have seen this concert (The Shrine 1955), but even l'm not that old.

mick's dressed up again! the rolling stones 2000 light years from home

mick jagger looks happy (not) to be dressed up

I know the wedding was many years ago, but these photographs just make me chuckle. Mick Jagger does not look too pleased to be dressed up in costume for his wedding to Jerry Hall, and is probably having acid flashbacks to the cover of The Rolling Stones album 'Their Satanic Majesties Request'. It just shows, no matter how much money and fame you have, you still have to make compromises in a relationship!

Here's the album cover mentioned above

And here's an outtake from it

jack kirby's views on captain america wearing insurrectionists

I've only just seen this, but love it, and not just as a fan of Jack Kirby (and now Neil Kirby). It also sums up my feelings towards the low lifes, and it's great that Neil has come out and made this statement.  It's  shame more people, especially in the Republican party, haven't done the same, or they have the unscrupulous brass balls to defend it.

The Aliens - The Happy Song (Official Video)

the rolling stones at la forum 1975 - happy

This was the tour where it was more or less 'One song - One line', but Keith Richards still manages to look cool (with his new teeth), despite the bellbottoms, missing the start of 'Happy', and various other bits. Mick does the honourable thing and helps him out, but the sloppiness is also part of the attraction with the Stones, and Keef just keeps rolling along.

and so it strarts - workers rights and priti patel talking crap

As expected, the chipping away at worker's rights begins after Brexit.  As for the people who voted for the omnishambles and are currently complaining about loss of income, jobs, food shortages and having to pay more for transported goods, a lot of Remainers are feeling sorry for them because they feel the Brexit voters were conned.  Those Remainers are better than me, as l have no sympathy, and it's not like they were not warned, so fuck them, the closet and not so closeted right wing, narrow minded, little Britain clutching at 'sovereignty' racists.

OK, there may be exceptions, but l prefer to gloat.  Not admirable, but it passes the time during lockdown, and cheers me up no end

On a related theme, here's Priti Patel's answer to why the UK has the highest death rate.

And this woman is our Home Secretary.

FFS - I wondered what's happened to the latest Mojo.

Fucking Boris and Brexit have a lot to answer for. It's one thing messing up the whole country (apart from me, because l will be OK)  , but don't fuck up my subscription magazines and cd deliveries

the lockdown eating isn't that healthy

The lockdown eating hasn't been that healthy.  I've finally managed to make decent potato cakes (add plenty of butter afterwards), and have been followed them up with cheese, crackers and wine. Yum Yum!

On the other hand, l haven't been eating all of my food.  I've just had to throw away some rolls and cheese, as, despite my rubbish sense of smell, even l could tell they may have gone off a bit.

political books

If l've been a bit political recently, this recent reading probably hasn't helped.  Then again, with Boris and Trump in power, politics is pretty important.

laura nyro at monterey 1967

I was watching the out-takes of the Monterey Festival from 1967 last night (as you do), and thought l'd share this mesmerising footage of Laura Nyro from it.  There's only her performance of Poverty Train, plus the end of Wedding Day Blues, but it is outstanding, even to these noise raddled ears and ravaged old eyes. Amazing to think that she apparently thought at the time that she was not liked at the festival and was not well received.
Unfortunately, there is not a lot of footage of her to be found anywhere, but she was a special talent, and her first three albums are exceptional, although she is better known for other people covering her songs.

the new european trump and the corrupt boris

A great cover by The New European. Only a few days to go until the would be dictator is removed, but l expect a lot more violence on the day and many days before then. As a general rule of thumb, right wing fanatical supporters who have been constantly lied to, stoked up, and have ownership of military grade weapons, is not a good thing in the lead up to a democratic inauguration. There's an excellent article about how Qanon type beliefs take hold which l was trying to add here (with no success), but if you are interested (and it is well worth it) ...

Look here

Rather sadly, the future of democracy is looking more fragile every year, and l also apply that to the UK and  Boris Johnson's corrupt money grabbing, two faced government, who have been using the same tactics as Trump, chipping away at democracy with blatant lies and lawbreaking since they gained power, and rather sadly, just at the time we need a strong but fair and compassionate  leadership. The right wing press barons and their apologists have a lot to answer for.

Never mind, we've now got blue passports and happy fish.
