revolution - spacemen 3 and lord jamar, plus 'the night of'
Two songs called 'Revolution' today, and neither of them is the famous Beatles one. Lord Jamar's version is pretty recent, and has just been featured in 'The Night Of.' TV series, while Spacemen 3's version is donkey years old. Jason Pierce from Spacemen 3 later went on to form Spiritualised. 'Taking drugs to make music to take drugs to' indeed, but both of these versions are excellent in their own ways.
Oh, and The Night Of series has also been excellent, highlighting the horrors of the American justice system, and the boredom and coping mechanisms of serving time in prison. As an ex lag myself, I know of what l speak!

the new bob dylan live 1966 box set, and neil innes - protest song - plus hancock and oasis!
Well l have a pretty good idea what l will be listening to over this Christmas - the new Bob Dylan box set of the 1966 tour. A mere 36 discs. I've already got the bootleg box set of Dylan's Genuine Live 1966, which is a mere 8 cds, so, rather sadly, l am really looking forward to this.
Here's the bootleg version l already have (not my copy)
And here's the new official version
All of this after the massive Cutting Edge box set last year.
I really need to get a life.
In the meantime- here's a protest song by Neil Innes, live on Rutland Weekend Television. The man who was plagiarised by Oasis. Check out 'How Sweet To Be An Idiot' by Innes, and compare it to Oasis' 'Whatever'.
I rest my case your honour "Did Magna Carta die in vain" etc...

a video a day - the doors - light my fire (steptoe and son style)
This made me chuckle, and it's been done so well. The Doors 'Light My Fire', mixed with the theme music from Steptoe and Son.
Enjoy!

ossie ardiles - white, blue and white, and the centenary fa cup final, plus england v west germany, 1972
I've been watching the documentary on Osvaldo (Ossie) Ardiles today - 'White, Blue and White' by ESPN, and rather enjoyable it was as well, especially when they had the (unexpected to me) crash in the Falklands.
However......
As l'm a sad pedantic stickler for details when it comes to such things, it really annoyed me that they kept referring to the 1981 FA Cup Final between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City (Ciddy) as 'The Centenary one'. It may well have been the 100th cup final in the competition, as it was interrupted twice for the World Wars, but what was billed of at the time, and what was known as the centenary final, was the 1972 final between Leeds United (dirty Leeds) and Arsenal.
Here's the programme for the (Centenary) 1972 final.
Plus, while l was searching for my copy of the programme, l also came across the advert for the programme, on the back of my 1972 England v West Germany programme.
I know l really need to get a life, but these things are important!.
Oh, and if you're wondering about the England game, don't be surprised to learn that they were overrun by the Germans, humiliatingly beaten 1-3, a triumph orchestrated by the magnificent Gunter Netzer, after everyone beforehand had given the Germans no chance. The Germans had a young and mostly inexperienced team out, also had two good penalty shouts not awarded, and so much was expected from England.
Times haven't changed since then.

gary lineker's photograph wall
Am l the only person who may have spotted this last night?
While everyone was celebrating Leicester City winning the Premiership, thanks to the Tottenham v Chelsea draw, Match of the Day showed footage of Gary Lineker and family celebrating at his home. In the background, was an impressive looking wall covered in what seemed like framed family photographs. However, what caught my eye, was that, if you look closely, the pictures are duplicated, which leads me to believe that it may be wallpaper.
That got me thinking even more (a dangerous thing). Maybe they are family photographs, made into strips of wallpaper. Maybe they are different photographs, just very similar. Maybe they are the same photographs, each framed a few times.
Otherwise, it's just crap wallpaper.
I'm amazed my brain doesn't explode with all the useless crap l spend time thinking about.

jeremy hunt's student photograph, and following him around
If only this photograph of a young Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt as the Oxford University Conservative Association President was real, instead of being a mocked up one. What unbridled joy could have been had.
Still, it's worth putting up anyway, as this is now the image l have stashed away in my memory banks whenever l think of the NHS destroying Mr **nt (him destroying it, not sadly, the other way round).
And who the hell has 'Streynsham' as a middle name?
Don't start making me angry....
Also, on a related note.
This piss take from 'The Last Leg' was pretty funny, and there should be more of it. *unt should be followed everywhere, as l'd certainly chip in to help fund a full time tuba (sousaphone) player. Come on somebody - sort it out!

I'm back (with cartman).
Christmas is over - normal service has been resumed, and what better way to return than with a classic video of Cartman singing 'Poker Face'. Possibly even better than Lady Ga Ga's version, and l love that.
I only watch South Park now and again these days, but there's usually always something that makes me laugh out loud.
Especially Cartman - for many reasons, he reminds me so much of myself.
Let the madness continue.

god song - gavin clark and toydrum
Featured in 'This is England 1990', one of the best songs l have ever had the good fortune to hear - God song, by Gavin Clark, on the soon to be released Toydrum album 'Evangelist'.
It's more than a pity that Gavin Clark is no longer around to reap the plaudits, but he's left a fine body of work to delve into.
Here's his splendid version of The Smiths 'Please please let me get what l want', from the end of an earlier 'This is England' (when he was in Clayhill).
He sure knew how to emote.

the housemartins, stan cullimore and the bopps
More madness from YouTube. Here's The Bopps, a children's programme from the UK.
The reason l am highlighting it?
Only because one of The Bopps is no other than Stan Cullimore, who used to be in The Housemartins (most definitely NOT Stan Collymore). This l only found out the other day, when l was also made aware that he is now a prolific children's author.
Consider my flabber to be gasted.
And any old excuse will do to show footage of The Housemartins - so here's 'Sheep'.

the flaming lips and miley cyrus on the conan show
I'm a big fan of The Flaming Lips, and they are at their bonkers best on this recent Conan show appearance with Miley Cyrus, performing The Beatles 'A Day In The Life' with a magical swirling cape.
I also dig Wayne Coyne's longer hair style - very Bolanesque.

sepp blatter has resigned!!......oh no hold on...
So, at long last, Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA has bowed to pressure (of whatever sort) and announced his resignation after 17 years.
Hurrah!!!!
Only it isn't yet, and he will almost certainly try to sort out a nice deal for himself by backing his no doubt handpicked stooges, whenever the reigns are handed over.
The only surprise is that it has taken so long, and when it all kicked off last week with the arrests in Switzerland, it actually came as a shock, because the bribes, corruption and fiddling had been so epidemic over the years, with nothing being done about it, and Blatter re-elected each time, it felt like it was a never ending season in Hell if you were a football fan concerned about the way the game is going.
Hopefully he will face charges himself, but will no doubt suddenly develop Alzheimer's or something similar and escape the justice he deserves, after all, he hasn't remained in power for so long by being a nincompoop.
There's an excellent book about FIFA corruption called 'Foul' by Andrew Jennings which l highly recommend, but to emphasise how long everyone has been helpless but aware of the seedy shenanigans, it was published in 2006.
John Oliver on 'Last Week Tonight' also pretty much nails the latest developments.
Here's to a bright new future (l very much doubt, as there will still be plenty of people out there willing to be bribed).
At least it's a start (as The Jam would say).

Colour me impressed. These are some painted stones by the dotillism artist Elspeth McLean. Far out and psychedelic maaaan, they look great.
And here are The Small Faces on 'Colour me Pop' - also great.

nina simone - live in 1968
Nina Simone in concert on UK TV back in 1968.
The first eight minutes of this are especially gloomy, yet uplifting as well. Saying that, the tribute to Dr Martin Luther King at the end is not exactly slack.
Talk about singing it as though you mean it, even in a relaxed soul / jazzy way. Emotional stuff.

naomi grossman as pepper the pinhead - plus the ramones
This is Naomi Grossman
This is Pepper (from American Horror Story).
This is them both together. The one and the same.
I know l have to try and comprehend the magnificent acting and make up (always difficult with my tiny brain), but whenever l watch the show, it makes my head hurt trying to envisualize Naomi in the role.
Time for a lie down , but before l go, here's the real life Schilitzie the Pinhead, who Pepper is based on.
Plus the incomparable Ramones, with their own Pinhead, from the 1977 riproaringly loud and brash It's Alive album.
Gabba Gabba Hey!
