the punks put on a show

You can say what you like about a lot of the old punk bands and music, but one thing you can't deny, is that some of the shows were a bargain. Here's one l would have loved to attended. And all for £1.65 in advance!

the pukes teach you how to play ukulele - plus the pink fairies

The Pukes are a society of punky, anti-establishment ukulele players in London, so if you want to get involved, get a ukulele and start learning the chords above.

As The Pink Fairies sang at Glastonbury 1971 - 'Just do it you muthas (Do it, Do it, Do it etc)'

Me?
I'm off for a cup of cocoa and a lie down.  I'm too old for this sort of malarky, but l applaud the idea and attitude, having lived through the punk wars myself.

and thinking about women photographers - sheila rock

 Sheila herself

The Buzzcocks

Siouxsie Sioux

The Cure

Johnny Rotton / Lydon

Billy Idol

The Clash

Debbie Harry

When the punk wars were happening, Sheila Rock was one of the photographers that was in the thick of it, shooting some iconic images along the way.  I don't know what l expected her to look like, but certainly not the innocent and sweet looking lady at the top.
She has a new book about Punk for sale, and her website is here.
It just goes to show (yet again) that you can't judge a book by it's cover.
However, you can judge a crap British 'Comedy film' by the amount of 'iconic' and 'hilarious' stars that are in it. But don't get me started on that one.

the pussy riot verdict

The verdict is due today for Pussy Riot, the Russian girl band that have been in prison since March for playing an impromptu show at The Cathedral Of Christ The Saviour in Moscow, and subsequently being charged with hooliganism (nothing to do with being anti Putin).  They face up to 3 years imprisonment, and whether you like their music, performances, or political stance is irrelevant.  They have already served long enough and should be freed.  The Sex Pistols designer Jamie Reid came up with the above advert as one of the many worldwide shows of support.  It would make a great t-shirt.

los exitos de sex pistols - por los punk rockers

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest punk LPs of all time. I have been listening to it tonight (while the FPO watched the X factor), and l had forgotten how really 'out there' it is. Recorded in 1978 as a cash in on the punk movement, it is a Spanish album, which is a straight copy of The |Sex Pistols album. Why's it so good? Because it also sounds like they are just going for it punk style, with the singer not even having a proper translation of the lyrics, so he just sings anything that sounds right (with attitude). One example is 'I'm a lazy seven' instead of 'I'm a lazy sod', but there are many, many more. The girl on the cover looks like she was dragged off a street and dressed as a punk, and the production is pretty 'raw' (to say the least. A bona fide classic!!!!! (now worth lots of money).

It's available to download here. (wait for the seconds to tick away and then click on the free download)
